In a few years time we will be celebrating 10 years of marriage! Even though it’s a few years to go, we are already planning a getaway and have been searching for the ultimate romantic destination to mark the occasion. For our honeymoon we headed off on a road trip of a life time; driving across California and Nevada over a three week period and stopping over at everywhere from Hollywood to Las Vegas. It was a wonderful holiday but this time we wanted to find a destination where we could stay in one hotel and spend our time exploring on foot and public transport, rather than forever be packing up suitcases to move to another hotel!
After a great deal of searching over at https://www.destination2.co.uk, and discussing the ins and outs of different long haul holidays to everywhere from Mexico to the Caribbean, we have settled on Singapore as our ultimate romantic getaway. It has everything we are looking for in a holiday destination. It has great weather nearly all year round, it’s small enough for us to travel around with ease, the food sounds amazing, and there are some really great places that we can’t wait to visit! Not only this, but it will fulfil one of my all time greatest desires which is to have a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel!!
We’ve been studying loads of different websites and guide books to decide where to go and what to see. So on our must see and must do list are the following:
- Have a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel (obviously this one has to come first!)
- Take a night safari – this looks incredible. I’ve never come across a night safari in a zoo before, and it sounds wonderful. The guide books say that it will give us the chance to see nocturnal animals that we normally don’t get to see, as well as to have a peek into the lives to animals once the sun sets. I really can’t wait for this one!
- Have a coat handmade for us! In Singapore there are rows and rows of tailors who will measure, fit and make a coat in any material and in any style you want without it breaking the bank! I might need two.
- Try out the spectacular food. The one I want to try the most is called Kaya Jam. It’s a coconut based jam that is tradionally had on toast, and is really hard to find anywhere else in the world. Paul is desperate to try a Durian fruit. This will be one I avoid – according to what we’ve read and heard it has a very distinctive ‘toilet’ smell that you have to get over before you can even think of eating it. I’m pretty sure I’m going to pass on that.
Singapore really seems to offer everything we want for a romantic getaway. Wonderful places to visit, fantastic food to try, and above all, time together to really reconnect and enjoy celebrating our 10 years married life!
