During winter, the combination of cold weather and the end of a long year can often mean that we don’t always feel like doing too much with our days. The nights have drawn in and the days are feeling much more like hard work, but as parents, we still need to keep up our energy levels to keep our kids entertained. In just a few short weeks, the idea of that is about to get completely amped up too. Because we have the Christmas break coming up, and you’re going to want to make sure you have lots of activities and ideas in mind to keep your kids busy. If you haven’t, we’re going to take a look at some things you can do to keep everyone entertained, including you!
One of the first things you could think about doing together as a family is to make Christmas ornaments. Although you may have a set scheme for your tree, or even your decorations altogether, this could become a really love tradition. You could each make one decoration each year to add to your tree. It can be quite a fiddly task, but it’s also very festive and will be a lot of fun for your kids too. At the same time, it’s a great way to make memories together as a family.
Another thing you could do is to think about getting active together as a family. Although you may not feel like getting out and about or doing anything that requires too much energy at this time of year, that’s the perfect reason why you should. With so many fun family activities available, from trampolining to go-karting, you have no excuse not to. And it’s always a good idea to have some good old-fashioned fun together too.
Head To The Ice
One Christmas activity that you should definitely think about doing soon would be ice skating. This is one of the most festive activities that you could think of – and your kids will love it. You don’t have to travel far, as many local places will be putting on outdoor rinks, or you may have an indoor rink in a town nearby. Either way, it’s a great way to have fun and feel festive.
Up next, we’re heading back to another indoor activity that’s both festive and fun – baking! Every kid loves to bake. But instead of making their favourite cookies or character cakes, you’re going to put a Christmas spin on things. From gingerbread houses to mince pieces, there’s so much you could consider doing together as a family.
From here, another great idea for you all to do is volunteer. Volunteering is an amazing way to give back to your community, and when you do it as a family, you’re able to teach your children the importance of being selfless and caring for others. Lots of charities will be looking for help at this time of year, so why not put yourselves forwards to help, or donate shoebox gifts to your local shelters?
