Christmas Stockings : Is It Worth Cheating?

So, it is a few weeks before Christmas and we are pretty much done with the present buying. We’ve spent hours on the internet checking out reviews, bickering about what gifts the children will actually play with and deciding what on earth to get those adults who already have everything! We are done! Except…there is always one more thing to do and its the one thing I dread the most – the Christmas stockings! Every year, we hang our 4 stockings up in the living room when we put up the tree. They hang there, waiting to be filled with thoughtful but cheap gifts.  You know, those inspired little gifts that won’t be stuffed in a drawer for the rest of the year.  Well, actually that’s what would happen an ideal world. But in the real world all I want is to be able to fill the stockings with cheap small gifts.  Easy right? Nope! I find that sometimes I am spending nearly more on the cheap plastic stocking fillers than I do on the actual presents!  Not only that, but finding and buying stocking fillers takes so much longer than finding and buying the rest of the gifts – which has got to be wrong! So, this year, I decided to cheat.  I’d already spent a few hours online trying to find some quirky cheap gifts, but was quickly losing the will to live. Then I came across the perfect solution! A pre-filled stocking!! What a genius idea – £20, no more time spent and it’s done.  I was a little apprehensive about spending money on something I couldn’t look closely at – but I was willing to give it a try – after all it couldn’t be any worse than what I was trying to buy and it was significantly cheaper. So, after looking at several different companies,  I ordered a ‘young boy’ and a ‘young girl’ stocking from Hawkins Bazaar and I am delighted with what we have been sent!

Girls’ Stocking

Boys’ Stocking

Both stockings had really appropriate toys for a 4 and 6 year old, and I know that the children will love opening their stockings.  I really like the fact that there are some similarities between the stockings as, at this age, they do like to be similar, but that there are lots of differences too. I wouldn’t often say that cheating is a great plan, but in this instance I think it has made my life so significantly easier – and at this time of year, that’s exactly what we need! I’d love to know if you have any Christmas hacks to make life just that little bit easier. Disclosure: We weren’t asked to review these stockings, we just think they are great!

I must admit that the older mine get, the harder I find stocking fillers. These look great though what a good idea!
