Outside Fun At Christmas
The school holidays are upon us, and there is always a lot of time spent in the house or visiting relatives. Whilst it’s lovely to be in and warm, we find that the children would often prefer to be outside, even in the cold weather! So, in that vein, we’ve put together our top ideas for outside fun at Christmas. None of them cost anything much, and none require a huge amount of planning – so perfect for those moments when the kids just have to run free!
Take a walk and look for animal tracks in the snow or mud
Play tag or hide and seek in the nearest wood.
Get the cameras out and take wintery photos – you could even have a competition!
Look for birds nests in trees.
Make a bird feeder and bird watch in your garden.
Watch the birds and make a tally chart of which ones arrive in your garden.
Use twigs and string to make a maze in your garden.
Go for a nature walk.
Wrap up warm and have a winter picnic.
Decorate a tree in your garden.
See how many plants you can find on a walk.
Go for a night walk and look at the stars – when you get home learn more about them.
Lay on the ground and look at the clouds – what pictures can you see?
Take a walk under the full moon.
Draw winter trees.
Look for squirrels nests.
Collect pine cones to make Christmas decorations.
Do a winter scavenger hunt.
Watch the sunset.
