Living Arrows

Living Arrows #7

Living Arrows is a lovely photo series hosted by Donna over at What The Redhead Said which is all about celebrating childhood. As the poet Khalil Gibran wrote:

“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.”

I’m enjoying taking lots of photos of the children, and it is only when I look back over them that I notice the little things that I didn’t see at the time. The determination, or resilience or absolute joy that can be fleeting moments, but oh so precious.

Living ArrowsThis week Little Miss had her second horse riding lesson. It was so wonderful to see her confidence grow almost by the minute.  In her first lesson she learnt how to use the reins, but this time we went to a different stables and they concentrated much more on her balance, which was exactly what she needed. I was truly amazed to see her stand up in the stirrups and balance as the horse was trotting around the ring! She moved from walking, to trotting, to a rising trot and did a great job of rising in time with the horse. She really amazes me with her fearlessness and determination.

Living ArrowsI just love this photo from Little Sir – it tells me so many things.  His confidence has grown immeasurably over the last 17 months.  When he first came home, he really struggled with having his picture taken and knowing how to smile, but now he is so super confident in himself that he’ll ask me to take photos of him several times a day!  This was taken on Saturday on his first day of half term and he loved still being in his PJ’s at midday. In fact if he had his way, I think he would have stayed in them until bedtime!

  1. I always wanted to learn how to ride a horse when I was younger, what an amazing experience for her! Also really couldn’t blame anyone wanting to stay in pjs all day – that sure sounds fun! Nothing better than a cosy pj and duvet day at home, especially with the poor weather we have been having recently!

It’s only just been really recently that he’s wanted to stay in his PJ’s and I do love the fact we have time and space for him to do this! But I feel a little as though I’m looking into the future at him in 10 years time! x

  2. Oh your little man has so much personality! Love his photo and the glasses. Your daughter looks so brave – I would love to horse ride x

Thanks Donna – I loved both those photos so much – it epitomises the kids totally! x
