It’s here!!!!! No more school runs, no more uniforms, no more paperwork, no more homework….just no more! Even though we are now home schooling, we will be practising unschooling for the holidays – doing the opposite of school and following the children’s interests. So we have sat down together and made a list of all the things we want to do over the next 6 weeks – we just can’t wait to get started! Fruit picking: We absolutely love fruit and the children will choose fruit over anything else but it does have to be soft fruit as a preference. We haven’t been fruit picking before but the kids love the idea of being able to pick their own fruit, and we have grand plans to make pies and jam but I think the fruit might be eaten long before those plans come to fruition! Follow the yellow brick road (well, the brown signs!): We regularly drive past brown signs all the time on our journey to the shops and the children always ask where they might lead. So we have plans to have a day or two where we go on a treasure hunt and follow the brown signs just to see where we end up! Den building: We are lucky enough to live pretty close to a large wood and we never seem to have enough time to visit and play, so we are going to be spending at least one day a week in the wood and the children have grand plans to build a huge den. Planting vegetables: Like fruit, the children also love their vegetables and so we have decided to try and grow our own. I’m hopeful that we will manage cress, possibly cucumbers and I’m not so positive about tomatoes, but we are going to have a go. Paddling: It’s surprising the number of places where you can go to get your feet wet in streams and rivers. We have several places locally where the children love to paddle and use their nets to see what they can find! I’m sure you have loads of other great ideas and we’d love to hear about them so we can add them to our list! Whatever you have planned for the Summer, let’s hope it’s a warm one.
