Way back when I first started blogging (OK, a few months ago!) I wrote a post on things I wish I’d known before I started blogging. I thought I had learnt a lot. Oh how wrong was I! Now, several months later having immersed myself in the world of blogging, I have learnt SO many tips and tricks from some utterly wonderful bloggers, so I thought I would write an update on blogging tips I have found to make your life so much easier. There are bound to be so many more out there, but these are the ones I LOVE!
This was recommended by Aby from YouBabyMeMummy and I have literally just started using it – and it is amazing! Basically, it is a way to schedule tweets onto Twitter without spending hours uploading your tweets and scheduling them one by one. I Joined with a free trial for the Professional site but it is only about $30 a month to buy it and I’m definitely going to. Ultimately it allows you to input your tweet and then set it to tweet out at a certain intervals for however long you wish. I tend to tweet each of my blog posts 20 times and was using Twuffer to do it – but it was taking about half an hour to schedule each post 20 times. With Social Ooomph, you input your tweet, select the interval you want it to be tweeted and how many times – and that’s it! It’s taken me all of 5 minutes. I am sure there is so much more it can do, but this is my new go to tool for blogging.
This plugin has been suggested on numerous blogging boards I have been reading so when I first went self hosted I installed it and haven’t looked back. Yoast is a way of ensuring that each of your blog posts has great SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). Now I don’t even pretend to know exactly what that is, but I do know that it is a way of making sure your blog posts are seen by a wider audience and will help them to appear higher up in Google search.
The best thing about Yoast is that it walks you through exactly what you need to do to ensure that your post is has the best SEO possible. Everything from making sure you have headers, to writing a reasonable number of words and including an image. Genuis! It’s now turned into a game to make sure each of my posts has the green light from Yoast.
Editorial Calendar Plugin
This was another tip from Aby at YouBabyMeMummy (seriously if you haven’t checked our her website, do it right now – it is full of fabulous blogging tips and tricks!). The Editorial Calendar is essentially a calendar where you can make sure that your blog posts are scheduled to go out on the days you want, and you can see at a glance what you have scheduled when. I love the fact I can create a basic draft of a post with just a heading and pop it into the Calendar. This means I can go back when I have more time and I know what I was going to write and when I want to post it. It’s really visual – and best of all, it’s FREE!
My final tip which has made such a huge difference to my blogging life, is to find blogging groups which work with the niche you are in. I’ve joined a couple of lovely groups on Facebook which have bloggers with a parenting bias, and I’ve found loads of tips and tricks, and been able to shout for help when I was confused (which appears to happen on a regular basis!). So, do have a look around on Facebook for your tribe – it’s bound to be out there and will make such a difference to the way you blog!
I’d love to know if you have any other tips and tricks which have made your blogging life easier!
